Manchester United have been handed a potential boost to their chances of landing a transfer deal for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.
Last month, it was reported that the Red Devils are interested in signing the Bees figure, who is set to enter the final year of his contract at the end of the season.
Looking ahead to the next summer transfer window, it seems as though the Old Trafford outfit have been handed a boost to their hopes of securing the Spaniard’s signature.
Speaking to The Athletic, the shot-stopper revealed that he has turned down two offers to sign a new deal with Brentford and that he is looking to play at a higher level than he currently is.
The 27-year-old joined Brentford back in the 2019 summer transfer window from Blackburn Rovers and has since gone on to make 146 appearances in all competitions.
Across those appearances, Raya has conceded 146 goals and kept 50 clean sheets in total, helping get Brentford out of the Championship to where they are now.
This season has seen the Brentford star face more shots on target (128) than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League and make more saves (100) in doing so, leaving him with a save percentage of 77.3%, the fifth-highest in the division and six places above David de Gea (70.7%).
Would you like to see Man United sign David Raya?
To delve deeper into what Raya has done for Thomas Frank’s side on a regular basis in this campaign, he has attempted more launched passes (533) than any other shot-stopper in the league and has only seen Emiliano Martinez (39) stop more crosses than him (37).
Hailed in the past by David Preece for his “outrageous” saves, Raya has certainly shown that he has what it takes to be a top goalkeeper in the Premier League.
With recent reports claiming that United are thinking of bringing in a potential replacement for De Gea should he decide not to sign a new deal at Old Trafford, we feel that the Brentford star could be the ideal option for the club to target in the summer, especially now that he has hinted at a potential move away from his current side.
