Newcastle United are reportedly considering making a move to sign Everton winger Anthony Gordon.

The Tyneside club were linked with a move for the Englishman during the previous summer transfer window, as were fellow Premier League side Chelsea, who were reportedly willing to spend £60m to sign him.

With previous reports suggesting that the Merseyside club have had some trouble getting Gordon to put pen to paper on a new deal at Goodison Park, the winger has once again been linked with a move away from Everton.

According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Newcastle are weighing up a potential move for Gordon and are considering making a bid to sign Flamengo’s Matheus Franca.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

The report also adds that while Gordon’s valuation of over £50m has put the Magpies off previously, they feel that Everton may be willing to negotiate a deal to sell him this month.

This season has seen the 21-year-old, who was previously hailed as an ‘absolute beast’ score three goals in 16 league appearances for Frank Lampard’s side as well as having more shots on target (16) than any other player at Everton.

In addition to that, he has racked up the second-highest number of successful tackles (22) in the Toffees squad, showing how effective he can be off the ball as well as being a goal threat on it.

Praised in the past by Alan Shearer for his “fearless” attitude on the pitch, Gordon would surely be tempted with a move to St. James’ Park this month given where they are in the Premier League table compared to Everton, in addition to the off-field issues going on at the Merseyside club at the moment.

With all of that in mind, if Everton were willing to discuss potentially selling Gordon this month, Newcastle should definitely explore this possibility and see if they would be able to land a deal for him.
