Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update regarding Everton’s pursuit of Villarreal attacker Arnaut Danjuma.

The Toffees have been one of the clubs reportedly in the mix to land a transfer deal for the Dutchman this month.

Having flown to the UK earlier this month to hold talks with clubs about a loan move, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the current state of play.

In a recent Twitter post, Romano said this about the situation surrounding Danjuma and Everton’s interest in him.

He said: “Crucial hours for Danjuma’s future. He will make a decision very soon, Everton are in advanced position and working on club’s side with Villarreal to get it done #EFC.”

Do you remember who Alex Iwobi was signed from?

The 25-year-old joined Villarreal from Bournemouth back in the 2021 summer transfer window after scoring 17 goals and providing eight assists in 52 appearances for the Cherries.

During his time in Spain, Danjuma has found the net 22 times and delivered four assists in 51 appearances across all competitions, highlighting how his goalscoring prowess has improved since his days in England.

This season has seen the attacker rack up the second-highest rate of expected goals (2.7) at the Spanish club, further proving how much of a nuisance he is for opposition defenders and goalkeepers.

Bearing in mind how Everton have one of the lowest rates of expected goals in the Premier League this season (19.9), this showcases the Toffees’ need to add an attacking figure like the former Bournemouth star to their ranks this month.

Given his experience of playing in the top-flight and the capability he’s shown of being able to do it in Spain, securing a deal for Danjuma could be an ideal signing for Everton given their difficulties in front of goal.

With Romano claiming that Everton are in an advanced position to land a deal for the Dutchman, this should be a big positive for everyone at the club, especially if they end up having him in the squad until the end of the season.
