Liverpool have ‘concrete’ interest in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves, according to a new report.
Fabrizio Romano has recently claimed that Jurgen Klopp is ‘exploring possibilities’ for a new midfielder before the transfer deadline, with the likes of Moises Caicedo and Jude Bellingham being linked with moves in the past.
Florian Plettenberg claims that Liverpool have ‘100% focus’ on landing Bellingham, with ‘no big transfers’ planned for the remainder of this month, but a new report appears to indicate that another arrival could be possible.
According to Football Insider sources, Neves is firmly on Jurgen Klopp’s radar, as he wants to bolster his midfield ranks with a top-class player, capable of coming straight into the starting XI.
The report goes on to say that Wolves could be willing to listen to offers for the Portugal international, and with Liverpool’s interest being described as ‘concrete’, they may make an approach late in the transfer window.
TIF thoughts on Neves to Liverpool…
It was only last April when former Wolves boss Bruno Lage valued the 25-year-old at £100m, as a result of an impressive 2021/22 campaign, in which the former Porto man made over 30 Premier League appearances for the fourth-straight season.
Not only that, but the midfielder has been a shining light in what has been a poor Wanderers team for much of this campaign, ranked as head and shoulders above the rest of the squad as the best-performing player, with an average match rating of 7.27.
Lauded as a ‘maestro’ by the Athletic’s Tim Spiers, Neves has proven that he is worthy of the step up to a club of Liverpool’s stature, and Klopp will certainly need some new additions, given that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita see their contracts expire at the end of the season.
