Liverpool have found themselves being linked with numerous midfielders during the current January transfer window.

Names such as Teun Koopmeiners, Khephren Thuram, Sofyan Amrabat and Matheus Nunes have all been mentioned with a move to Anfield at some point in recent weeks.

Another midfield figure the Reds have been linked with is Brighton & Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo.

This season has seen the 21-year-old feature in all but one of Brighton’s Premier League games prior to their home match against Jurgen Klopp’s side, starting all of them.

The 21-year-old also did his bit for Ecuador in the recent World Cup as he played every minute of their three games before being knocked out of the tournament, scoring one goal in the process.

However, it has since been revealed that the Merseyside club have not opened talks with Brighton over a potential deal for the Ecuadorian.

With that in mind, another midfielder that the Reds have been linked with recently that could be a perfect alternative to the Seagulls star is Manu Kone.

For example, with Caicedo topping the list at Brighton for the number of progressive passes (70) and combined total of tackles and interceptions (70) he’s made in the Premier League this season, this mirrors Kone’s efforts for Borussia Monchengladbach as he also tops the list at his club for the same statistics (58 & 40).

The duo also have a similar percentage of passing accuracy to their names this season, with Caicedo (87.4%) just topping Kone’s total (85.4%).

Praised for his “immense” performances by journalist Josh Bunting on Twitter, the Monchengladbach star may not have the top-flight experience of playing in England that the Ecuador international has, but he has still shown how much of an impressive player he is with and without the ball.

Looking ahead to the remainder of the January transfer window, if Liverpool are keen to add a new midfielder to their ranks, which is what Jamie Carragher has urged them to do, securing a deal for the Frenchman is definitely something Klopp should look to do before the end of the month.
