Everton are in ‘contacts’ to sign Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic this month, according to journalist Marco Conterio.

The Toffees are currently the second joint-lowest scoring team in the Premier League, and with the need for attacking reinforcements clear, have identified the 33-year-old as someone they’d like to change their fortunes at Goodison Park.

The Austrian’s contract in the Serie A isn’t set to expire until 2025 but his impressive performances have clearly caught the attention of Frank Lampard’s side, and negotiations are reportedly already underway regarding a move to Merseyside.

Taking to Twitter, Conterio revealed that Everton are currently in talks for Arnautovic, with the Toffees boss targeting a new first-choice centre-forward. Loosely translated, he wrote:

“Everton looks for a 9 for Frank Lampard. Contacts in progress for Marko Arnautovic of Bologna.

“Atalanta has rejected the loan offer for Duvan Zapata and Udinese has said no to the offer for Beto. So EFC is trying to catch Arnautovic.”

TIF thoughts on Arnautovic to Everton…

Everton can’t rush into buying any old striker just because they are desperate for additions in the final third, but Arnautovic would genuinely be the perfect profile of player for the club.

The Floridsdorf native has gone from strength to strength in Italy, netting eight goals and providing one assist in 14 league appearances so far this season, also averaging 1.7 shots and 1.4 key passes per game (WhoScored).

Arnautovic also already has experience in the top flight from his spells with Stoke City and West Ham so would easily be able to adapt to the style of play, which is exactly what the manager needs.
