Arsenal journalist Kaya Kaynak has shared some details regarding the north London club’s transfer pursuit of Moises Caicedo.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Gunners had seen a £60m bid for the Brighton midfielder rejected by the south coast club.

After that, Caicedo shared a post on his official social media accounts expressing his desire to make a move away from his current club.

This month has also seen the Emirates outfit linked with a move for West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.

With only a couple of days left before the winter window closes, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding Arsenal’s links with Caicedo and Rice.

In a recent Twitter post, Kaynak had this to say on the situation heading into the final days of the January transfer window.

He said: “#AFC still hopeful that Brighton may sell Caicedo if they bring in a midfielder before deadline day. Club adamant they’re not behind soc med posts though. Deal for CM does not affect move for Declan Rice in the summer. Arsenal want both!”

Despite the Seagulls telling their midfield star to stay away from training until after the January transfer deadline in an effort to keep him at the club, this update from Kaynak should fill the Arsenal fans with some excitement that a deal could be struck before then.

Bearing in mind how both Caicedo and Rice have the joint-sixth-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (78) in the Premier League this season, this highlights how impressive they both are off the ball and why potentially adding both to Mikel Arteta’s squad would significantly improve their midfield strength and depth.

Moving forward, if the league leaders are able to grant the Brighton figure his wish before Tuesday’s deadline, this would surely be a strong end to their latest January window under Arteta following the arrivals of Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior.
