Arsenal have reportedly made an enquiry to the representatives of Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie over a potential transfer deal.

After initially joining the Italian club on a loan deal from Schalke back in September 2020, the 24-year-old became a permanent Juventus player in the 2021 summer transfer window.

During his time with the Old Lady, McKennie has made 96 appearances across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and delivering five assists along the way.

Having reportedly turned down the likes of Bournemouth and Aston Villa this month, the USA international may yet still find himself joining a Premier League team before the January transfer window shuts.

According to a recent report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Arsenal have approached McKennie’s agents over a potential late January transfer deal.

The report also adds that Juventus could be willing to negotiate a deal to sell the midfielder if a fee of around €20m-€25m (£17m-£21m) comes in.

Despite finding himself on the radar of numerous top-flight clubs, McKennie’s efforts in Serie A this season don’t suggest that he’d be a particularly impressive signing for Mikel Arteta’s side this month.

Specifically, with 15 league games to his name, the midfielder only has seven other outfield players at Juventus with a lower passing accuracy percentage than him (80.4%).

In addition to that, only five players have lost the ball after being tackled by an opposing player than McKennie (12), further highlighting how careless he can be in possession.

Then, out of possession, despite previously being described as a “monster” in the air by CBS Sports’ Wes Rucker, the Juventus figure has only won 42.9% of his aerial duels in the league this season.

Taking all of this into account, unless Arteta is confident that McKennie would be a suitable addition to his side, the north London club should be wary about securing a deal for the midfielder this month given how underwhelming he has been in this campaign.
