Tottenham Hotspur have been tipped to win a piece of silverware under Antonio Conte if the Italian is substantially backed by the club’s owners.
This has been suggested by the TalkSport pundit and former football club owner, Simon Jordan, who has been hailing the 53-year-old manager amid his ongoing contract situation.
Conte has now been at the helm of the north London club for just over one year and has managed to return the Lilywhites to the elite European competition.
However, their ongoing search for silverware continues with the trophy drought now edging closer to 13 years since their 2008 League Cup win against Chelsea.
But Jordan remains confident that Spurs can end that drought if the club’s owners continue to provide the Italian with the financial backing required to beat the likes of Manchester City:
(1:40) “Now Tottenham have changed the direction of travel by getting somebody in that’s perfectly capable of being able to handle Daniel Levy. Knowing that Daniel Levy wanted him on two or three occasions, he’s in the door with leverage over Daniel Levy, which means that he’s going to be able to get sufficient support to be able to back his ambitions.
“So Conte then is a winner. Yeah, he’s a winner. Absolutely he’s a winner. No doubt about it he’s a winner.”
“He will win something, no doubt if he’s given a certain amount of support. I do. I do believe he’s a winner.”
TIF Thoughts on Jordan’s comments…
Spurs have certainly made some improvements under Conte and find themselves in the last 16 of the Champions League and the top four amid this World Cup break.
Will Conte win Spurs a trophy?
Yes
No
However, it is apparent they are still some distance off winning any major silverware having already been dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Nottingham Forest and received some big defeats against some of the league’s biggest sides.
But it is also important to remember Conte has only had two transfer windows in charge at Spurs and he has already seen some important players like Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur come through the door.
So, although they may still be some way off landing some elusive silverware, they do seem to be making strides in the right direction.
