New footage suggests that VAR may have made a key mistake in the most recent Rangers game by missing a potential handball from James Tavernier.

In a rather dramatic Scottish Premiership outing this week, Michael Beale’s new side managed to steal all three points in stunning fashion, sealing a 3-2 win right at the death.

Indeed, goals from Duk and Leighton Clarkson had put Aberdeen into the lead after Fashion Sakala had initially put Rangers in front. However, Scott Arfield scored a stoppage-time double to give Rangers the victory.

Despite all the drama, things could have turned out differently had the referee or VAR decided to give a penalty to the home side when Tavernier looked to have possibly handled the ball inside his own box:

TIF Thoughts on and Rangers…

Footage shared on social media shows that the Rangers defender seems to bat the ball onto the post with his arm, but no penalty was awarded, with it being ignored by the officials.

At the time, the score was 1-0 to Beale’s men, and even though Aberdeen managed to pull the scores level and even take the lead for a fair while, a penalty at this moment in time could have changed the final outcome of the game.

However, there was also a clear error made involving Ross McCrorie as he appeared to handle the ball which also wasn’t given.

In the end, though, Rangers fans will be far too delighted with this stunning late win to care about any debatable refereeing decisions. After the victory, they remain second in the league with 39 points after 17 games.
