Journalist Dean Jones believes Julen Lopetegui will be hoping that any new signings at Wolves will spark his current failing crop into form.

Wolves have been terrible this season as they sit rock bottom of the Premier League and four points from safety.

The Molineux outfit are faced with the serious threat of relegation for the first time since they breezed to promotion back in 2018, forcing the board’s hand to bring in experienced manager Lopetegui to correct the sinking ship.

Wolves have been abysmal in front of goal so far this season with only eight league goals from 15 games – the worst in the division – with them set to enter the January window in a bid to turn their fortunes around.

However, Jones has told GiveMeSport that new additions at Molineux will be the ones to give the club the boost they dearly need.

He said: “Wolves cannot wait on these guys forever or they will be in the Championship. We know they need goals, so the solution is to buy a new forward. Hopefully, in turn, that sparks a reaction in Jiménez and Fábio Silva that gives Lopetegui a headache – in a good way.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

It was previously reported earlier in the month by Fabrizio Romano that Wolves were in talks with Atletico Madrid to sign Matheus Cunha – and we think the arrival of the Brazilian or a talent of the same ilk is definitely what will be needed at Wolves.

Just as Jones said, they’re going the wrong way fast, and that’s no thanks to Jimenez and fellow forwards Pedro Neto and Hwang Hee-Chan,  who are all yet to score in the league this season. In fact, half of the Old Gold’s league goals have come from defensive midfielder Ruben Neves.

In fairness, Jimenez has battled a hip problem which has reduced him to only three league appearances and was clearly well off the pace for Mexico in the World Cup as he failed to have any impact in his three substitute appearances.

The threat of a new arrival may be enough to trigger Jimenez back into form and see Wolves turn things around under their new experienced manager. If not, their comfortable Premier League stay until now could get very ropey indeed.
