Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed long-term Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Sofyan Amrabat is still on the club’s radar heading into January.

Amrabat is likely to be near the top of many clubs’ transfer shortlists hearing into January following his performances at the World Cup, but Tottenham have been admirers of the midfielder for a long time.

It was reported earlier this year that Spurs had the chance to sign the Fiorentina man, but after declining to do so last winter, they are now seemingly going back with their tail firmly between their legs as they are tipped to make a move for the Moroccan this coming January.

Romano has admitted on the House of Champions YouTube channel that Antonio Conte continues to be a huge admirer of Amrabat, with the Spurs boss even liking him back when he was turning out for Hellas Verona in Serie A.

Do Spurs need to sign Amrabat?

No!

He said: “It’s true that he’s on the list at Tottenham, because Antonio Conte wanted him one year ago when he was not playing at Fiorentina. Antonio Conte loved this player since he was at [Hellas] Verona, so [when he was] really unknown on the international stage.

“Now he remains a big fan of Amrabat, but Fiorentina want €40m. So it’s also true also that Liverpool are interested, but no one has made a proposal as they want to wait a bit and see if the price will change.”

Starting with the club's £60m summer signing, which of these players could Richarlison be facing?

Given that Spurs eventually signed Rodrigo Bentancur instead of Amrabat last year, Tottenham and their fans won’t likely be too disheartened about not bringing in the Moroccan. However, he could prove to be a useful signing this January if it means being able to rest at least one of Bentancur or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg every so often.

According to Romano, Amrabat is being chased by Liverpool, so it certainly won’t be simple for Spurs to land the Morocco international, but given how long Conte has admired him, that could play a big role in who he decides to join.

Conte has spoken openly in the past about how he still needs more signings from Daniel Levy to ensure Spurs are going to be able to compete with the best of the best, so handing him a long-term target would certainly please the Italian.
