Tottenham Hotspur youngster Alfie Devine could now be heading for the exit doors at Hotspur Way for the remainder of the season.

This has been suggested by Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold, who has been discussing the 18-year-old’s future on his latest YouTube video.

It was believed Devine was set to go out on loan for the 2022/23 campaign during the summer, however, having picked up an injury for the U21s, a move away was put on hold.

Spurs signed Devine in the summer of 2020 from Wigan Athletic and he made his debut for the first team in the FA Cup under Jose Mourinho back in 2021.

However, he is yet to make an appearance under current manager Antonio Conte, and now he is back to full fitness, Gold is anticipating a similar move to the one Dane Scarlett has been sent out on.

Gold said: “He was likely to head out on loan this season and then he picked up a really frustrating hamstring injury.

“You’d presume now that will happen in January. He needs it, for me. He needs to do what Dane’s done. He needs to go to, I’d say, a League One team maybe – that kind of level; get him playing week-in, week-out, every minute possible and I think you’ll see a very rapid development.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We think this would be the best possible move for Devine next month, as even the likes of Oliver Skipp are struggling to make an impact on Conte’s side.

Should Devine leave on loan in January?

Yes

No

No

And it is apparent there are a lot of high hopes for the Englishman, with Peter Reid previously speaking exceptionally highly of him:

“I remember the first time I saw him, I just thought he had a bit of everything. He could handle the ball, hold off defenders, he had that determination,” he said.

And with the current U21 side for Spurs not proving to be very competitive, getting some experience in men’s football could certainly prove a big benefit to the youngster.
