Neil Warnock has urged Eddie Howe to not go crazy and spend a lot of money in the January transfer window amidst Newcastle United being linked with Cody Gakpo.
Many people and Newcastle fans, may well have been thinking that PIF, for the third successive transfer window, would hand Howe a significant transfer budget to improve his squad given that the Magpies have a great chance of finishing inside the top four this season.
However, that’s not the case with reports suggesting they are going to do the opposite and be very cautious with their spending in January despite being tipped to sign players such as Gakpo and Joao Felix.
Warnock has urged Howe and Newcastle to not be silly next month live on TalkSPORT because they have done well in the transfer market thus far.
(0:35) “I just think they’ve done it the right way they haven’t gone stupid with the money I hope they don’t spoil it now. They’ve been ever so sensible with what they’ve bought and they’ve got that team spirit.
Will Newcastle be active in January?
Yes!
No!
“I mean Almiron, deary me he’s been a revelation so I just look at them and think don’t go silly Eddie in January just try and improve your squad a little bit for injuries.”
TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s January transfer plans…
While some may see it as a risky move from Newcastle to not strengthen heavily when they are in a position of power in the top four, it actually is very sensible from PIF to reign in the finances slightly.
This is because they’ve already splashed out over £220 million and any more could well see them starring breaches of Financial Fair Play in the face, much like fellow Premier League side Everton have been for some time now.
Therefore, links to players such as Gakpo and Felix can almost be rubbished before the transfer window has opened up and instead fans should expect more signings such as Garang Kuol who featured at the World Cup as a teenager for Australia.
