Journalist Jordan Cronin has revealed the official word coming out of Newcastle United on their expected transfer activity in January.

Last January saw a statement of intent from Newcastle’s owners, PIF, to show they mean business and want to bring some of the best players to Tyneside, as they brought in international stars such as Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood and Bruno Guimaraes.

This was then followed up by a splurge in the summer on players such as Matt Targett, Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak, although something similar to previous windows shouldn’t be expected by fans this winter, according to Cronin.

While speaking on the Loaded Mag YouTube channel, Cronin revealed what he’s been told about Newcastle’s expected business next month.

He said: “The official line is, don’t expect too much, don’t expect lavish spending in terms of what they’ve spent over the last two windows – that came from Eddie Howe himself.

Will Newcastle be active in January?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“He mentioned Financial Fair Play as he always does, so I’ll stick with the official line and what I’ve been told by him, is that they’re not intending to be too busy. If they do sign players, it will probably be a couple of players, maybe younger options.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s January business…

It has been reported that the Magpies are against spending a load of money next month despite being inside the top four and perhaps able to add a bit more quality to ensure they end the season there.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

While this may anger and confuse some Newcastle fans, the fact that PIF are taking a careful approach to their spending ad not going overboard by risking breaching Financial Fair Play regulations is a sign of good owners.

However, much like last summer and January, with Isak and Guimaraes respectively, if a good deal shows itself late in the window, PIF may well think it’s too good to turn down and perhaps take some money from the summer budget if it means they can land a target earlier than expected.
