Former Newcastle United ace Shaka Hislop believes that Christian Pulisic shouldn’t be looking to join the Magpies.

Newcastle were credited with an interest in Pulisic over the summer, although his current club opted against sending him out on loan. However, he’s hardly featured this season.

Now though, it looks like the Magpies are once again keen on the American, who scored once at the World Cup for his national side, but former Magpies shot-stopper Hislop isn’t convinced on the move.

Hislop was speaking on ESPN about how Newcastle already have enough depth and don’t need to bring Pulisic in.

He said: “As you look at Newcastle in those positions, you’ve got Almiron who’s having the season of his career, you’ve got Joelinton, you’ve got Willock. You also have Isak to come back, who can play anywhere along that front three and started the season so brilliantly well for Newcastle.

Would you like Newcastle to sign Pulisic?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“So all of a sudden, there’s a lot of competition for very few spots, and Christian Pulisic, the concern or the complaint was that he simply wasn’t getting enough game time at Chelsea, you come into a Newcastle side that’s settled, that’s played well all calendar year long – both last season and this – does he find himself in a similar position?

“If I’m advising Christian Pulisic, that is my concern going into Newcastle United.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s interest in Pulisic…

We think Pulisic would be a decent signing for Newcastle to add depth out wide as they try to make that step up into the Champions League, but given how many options Eddie Howe already has, it may be more of a luxury move instead of a necessary one, as Hislop hints at.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Newcastle are reportedly not keen on spending a lot of money in January, which is the total opposite to the previous two transfer windows PIF have been involved in, having splashed out over £220m in that time, so Pulisic may have to look further afield than Tyneside, although an alleged £30m price tag does seem tempting.
