Journalist Ross Gregory has admitted on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel that links between Newcastle United and Christian Pulisic are refusing to go away.

Newcastle were one of the clubs being heavily linked with a move for the United States international over the summer as Eddie Howe looked to add more firepower out wide, and it appears that those links have resurfaced once again.

This comes after the winger starred at the World Cup, registering three goal involvements as the USA got to the round of 16 before being knocked out by the Netherlands, and while the transfer links remain, Gregory admits to have not heard anything on the player arriving on Tyneside in January.

He said: “It’s not going away. I don’t know anything about whether Newcastle are interested in Pulisic at all. I will always come on here and be honest about what I know and what I don’t know, and I don’t know anything about Pulisic.

Would you like Newcastle to sign Pulisic?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“I’ve not heard or spoken to anybody that’s given us a steer on this one whatsoever, but the name just keeps cropping up, it keeps coming back around, it goes a bit quiet and then it comes back around again.

“I think there’s obviously something there. You can read between the lines, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they did move in for Pulisic in January.

“He fits the type of player that they want, he can play out wide, he can play centrally, he can drop in as a 10, and if they want an extra additional forward player, then that might not be the worst shout in the world.”

TIF Thoughts on links to Pulisic…

While signing a winger won’t likely be at the top of Newcastle’s priority list come January given the form of Miguel Almiron and the fact Alexander Isak and Allan Saint-Maximin are to return in the near future, if a viable deal emerges, we think Pulisic could yet end up on Tyneside.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

It’s quite clear that the American is in need of a fresh start given he’s only started three league games so far this season for Chelsea, but considering the options Newcastle already possess out wide, game time wouldn’t be a guarantee for the ‘wonderful‘ player, despite the idea he would be an upgrade on squad members such as Ryan Fraser and Jacob Murphy.

Therefore, perhaps a loan deal with an option to buy could work out for everyone, as Pulisic would get out of Chelsea temporarily, while Newcastle could assess whether he can stay fit – given his poor injury record with the Blues – and if he would be able to get above the likes of Almiron and Saint-Maximin in the pecking order before committing to a big transfer fee.
