Journalist, Lee Ryder has raved about Newcastle United’s Sven Botman and his display in their 2-1 win against Rayo Vallecano.

Writing for The Chronicle, Ryder claimed that the Dutchman ‘didn’t put a foot wrong’ and delivered some ‘sumptous passes’.

The Magpies would take the lead through Sean Longstaff, Chris Wood would then convert from the penalty spot. Matt Targett then put one into his own net to give the Spanish side a consultation goal.

Botman joined Newcastle last summer from LOSC Lille for a fee of around £35 million. The 22-year-old has gained 12 caps for the Netherlands under-21s, making his debut in September 2020.

Ryder stated, ‘Sven Botman 7

‘Didn’t put a foot wrong. Some sumptuous passes.’

TIF’s view on Ryder’s comments…

We believe that the performance from Botman is just one of many fantastic displays in a black and white shirt. He’s made 13 league appearances so far this season at centre-back.

The Dutchman has been one of many top performers at Newcastle. His average Premier League Sofascore match rating is 7.08, which is the eighth highest of any Magpies player so far this season.

Botman has helped Newcastle keep four league clean sheets. The Toon boasts the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League, conceding only 11 goals along with Arsenal.

At only 22-years-old, Botman has the potential to get even better. The go-to partnership has been alongside the experienced Fabian Schar, a player who has made 114 appearances for the club in all competitions.

He’s taken to life in the Premier League very quickly, Newcastle have seemed to unearth a real gem in Sven Botman. The Toon faithful will hope he’ll be on the books at the club for a very long time.
