Journalist Matty Hewitt has slammed Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron for his ‘horrendous’ miss in their most recent game.
After top-flight football was put on pause while the World Cup took place, certain Premier League sides returned to action in the Carabao Cup this week.
Newcastle were one of those teams and played host to Bournemouth in the fourth round of the competition on Tuesday. Most of the first half passed without incident, though Callum Wilson did have a goal ruled out for a marginal offside call.
However, shortly before the break, Dan Burn drilled in a low cross that found Almiron unmarked at the far post. All he had to do was poke it in from a few yards, but he somehow fluffed his lines.
Hewitt summed it up well on Twitter as he wrote: “That miss from Almiron is absolutely horrendous.”
