Journalist Chris Waugh has reported that Newcastle United ‘repeatedly asked about’ Christian Pulisic in the summer amid news of a January loan possibility.
The American winger scored a vital goal for his country at the 2022 World Cup this week. Indeed, his effort was enough to send the USA into the next round of a competition with a 1-0 win over Iran.
He wrote: “Christian Pulisic’s goal sent USMNT through to the FIFA World Cup last 16 – but his career has stalled at CFC.
“NUFC repeatedly asked about Pulisic during the summer. It seems Chelsea will only sell him, not loan him, in January.”

Even so, his match-winning effort against Iran in Qatar was a reminder of the sort of quality that earned him a move to England in the first place.
No doubt the American is a player of great potential, even if Chelsea are yet to truly unlock it on a consistent basis. With that in mind, it’s easy to see why the Blues could be open to loaning him out and not selling him outright.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Magpies are open to a temporary move after seemingly chasing after him so strongly in the summer.
