Tottenham Hotspur wing-back Ivan Perisic has been hailed by Alan Shearer for what he has shown at the 2022 World Cup.

The former Premier League striker was speaking on BBC’s coverage of Croatia’s final group stage game against Belgium, which saw the Spurs man start.

Perisic has played a huge role for Croatia at this winter’s World Cup, having featured in almost every minute across the three group stage games.

Starting with the club's £60m summer signing, which of these players could Richarlison be facing?

And he was able to provide two assists in their emphatic 4-1 victory over Canada as he picked up from where he left off in the Premier League under Antonio Conte.

Croatia went into their final game of the group stages as leaders of Group F, and Shearer hailed the Spurs wing-back for his influence on Zlatko Dalic’s side:

Shearer said: “He’s a really intelligent player. You [can’t] be around as long as he has and have the career that he has.

“I mean, he’s a really experienced player, isn’t he, that we’ve constantly spoken about in terms of the [Croatia] players, but you’ve still got to do it, you’ve still got to perform at the top level and he’s doing that, there’s no doubt about it. He’ll be a big player for them tonight.”

TIF Thoughts on Shearer’s comments…

It has been a fairly impressive start to life in north London for the 33-year-old, who has already racked up four assists in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt).

If there was one bit of criticism to be had regarding Perisic, it would be his lack of goals, as his search for his first Spurs goal will continue on Boxing Day.

However, we do have to agree with Shearer’s comments and it is apparent the Croatian is an intelligent player given he is still able to perform at this level as he nears his 34th birthday.
