Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Leeds United are keeping their eye on Chris Wood ahead of a potential transfer.

His verdict comes amid reports from Football Insider that have suggested Leeds are interested in re-signing the former Whites striker.

Wood spent two years at Elland Road before moving to Burnley in 2017, and having since switched to Newcastle United, he has fallen out of favour.

He could now be an option for Jesse Marsch considering Patrick Bamford’s recent struggles, and given the Leeds forward has undergone a groin operation, their forward line is perhaps in need of bolstering.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones said: “I think that they should be looking at somebody like Chris Wood, and I think Leeds will keep their eye on that situation.”

This would perhaps be seen as a potentially questionable transfer given Woods’ controversial exit from Elland Road, as well as the negative reaction towards him from some fans after he left.

The 31-year-old scored 44 times in 88 appearances for the West Yorkshire club during his time at Thorp Arch, and despite being unable to reproduce that sort of output on Tyneside, we think he could still be of value to Leeds.

The Toon spent £25m to bring the New Zealand international to St James’ Park last January, but he has managed just four goals in 33 games.

Nevertheless, having reached doubled figures in each of the four previous top-flight campaigns while at Burnley, the 6ft 3in centre-forward certainly has the ability to score goals in the Premier League.

Ex-Leeds striker Noel Whelan has described him as a ‘handful’ for the opposition in the past, but it remains to be seen as to whether Victor Orta will bring him back this winter.
