Presenter Joe Wainman is fearful that Leeds United could miss out on signing Azzedine Ounahi.
Wainman was speaking following the comments made by Leeds’ sporting director Victor Orta.
Orta told Spanish media outlet Marca via Yorkshire Evening Post that he has received a raft of messages asking how he hasn’t mentioned Ounahi before having admitted watching him at Angers in France for two years.
He admitted that even club president Andrea Radrizzani was left raving about the Morocco midfielder.
However, after seeing that Leicester City are preparing a hefty offer (L’Equipe) Wainman is wary of the Whites’ chances.
Speaking on the Just Joe Football Show he said: (3:23) “There are a host of other clubs looking at him, not least Leicester in the Premier League and I’m reading reports that they could be going in for a record bid of £39m which you know could well blow Leeds out of the water just due to how good his World Cup has been.”
TIF Thoughts on Ounahi and Leeds…
Do you expect Leeds to spend in January?
Yes
No
The 22-year-old played a key part as Morocco became the first African and Arab nation to reach a World Cup semi-final and despite defeat to France in the final four Ounahi was lauded as the ‘best player on the pitch’ by journalist Simon Collings.
He would likely be a tremendous addition to Jesse Marsch’s side, however, with Barcelona, PSG and Juventus among those European heavyweights to have watched the 16-cap ace in the past year (90min) they are likely to be priced out of a move as Wainman has suggested.
