Journalist Joe Donnohue spotted that Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams berated teammate Luke Ayling during their most recent Premier League game.

Leeds lost in their first game back after the World Cup break, but were looking to do better up at St James’ Park on a wet and windy afternoon.

Indeed, the Whites were up against daunting opponents in Newcastle United, who were third in the division coming into the clash.

And at half-time, Jesse Marsch’s men had managed to keep the scores level at 0-0. The Whites had to work hard throughout the game, though, and during that first 45 minutes, Adams wasn’t happy when Joe Willock managed to run past Ayling on the flank.

Indeed, Donnohue took to Twitter to explain what happened after Adams had to come across and prevent any further danger.

He said: “Tyler Adams and Luke Ayling having a few cross words on the pitch. The former not happy with the latter’s attempt to defend against Willock. Adams tidies up.”

TIF Thoughts on Luke Ayling, Tyler Adams and Leeds…

Ayling hasn’t always been the first name on the teamsheet for Leeds this season having started just one league game before the Newcastle clash – so he would have hoped to impress on this occasion.

However, he may have been a little rusty, and he certainly wasn’t at his best when challenging Willock. Luckily, he had Adams to help him out.

And even though he was shouted at, Ayling might have been glad for the help from his teammate. This sort of behaviour probably won’t come as a shock to those who watch the midfielder regularly, either.

Indeed, Adams has something about him and is often vocal on the pitch. In fact, so much so that he was named the USMNT captain for the recent World Cup, so he is clearly not afraid to assert his influence during games – and with Leeds keeping a clean sheet, perhaps his act of tough love worked in the long run.
