Pundit Noel Whelan has suggested that one man in particular could “save” Rangers’ season due to the relationships he already has at the club.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was relieved of his duties at the Light Blues on Monday morning with the club seeking to find his successor.

Reports suggest that they have identified former assistant manager Beale to take on the role with his current employers QPR believed to be expecting their head coach to leave for Ibrox (talkSPORT).

Ex-Gers midfielder Charlie Adam has said that the 42-year-old has a strong relationship with the Bears board and Whelan claims that will be extremely beneficial.

Speaking to Football Insider he said: “He’s worked there before.

“He knows what he’s walking into and there will already be that element of trust between him and the board.

“The relationship with most of the players is already built, and already good – and that’s massive for the atmosphere.”

“He’ll know the reception staff, the board members, almost everyone at the club.

“It’s going to be a smoother transition than getting someone in from outside and having to adjust mid-season – and that could help save their season.

“The draw for Beale will be the potential of Champions League football and winning trophies – and you will get that at Rangers.”

TIF Thoughts on Whelan’s comments…

Do you want Michael Beale as manager?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Beale of course was Steven Gerrard’s assistant when Rangers won their 55th league title a couple of seasons ago.

However, being a no.2 will be a lot different than being the main man, especially at a club the size of the Glasgow giants.

The Bromley-born coach is currently in just his first senior first-team managerial role at Loftus Road and having guided the R’s to the top of the Championship table they have since endured a difficult spell losing four of their last five matches.

That inexperience could raise concerns among supporters north of the border but as Whelan pointed out it certainly isn’t a full reset midway through the campaign although he will need to be backed in January either way.
