Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves will be looking forward to playing under new manager Julen Lopetegui.

That’s according to journalist Pete O’Rourke who spoke to This Is Futbol regarding the appointment and how he may impact the likes of Neves.

The 2022/23 campaign has been a difficult one for Wolves. They currently sit 19th in the Premier League and have only won 2 of their 14 league games.

Former manager Bruno Lage was sacked in early October following a 2-0 defeat to West Ham. Last Saturday the club finally announced the appointment of Julen Lopetegui, a manager with an impressive CV.

O’Rourke believes that Wolves’ star man Ruben Neves will be looking forward to playing under the new boss.

“I’m sure he can only be impressed by the appointment of Lopetegui who’s got a great CV, he’s managed some top clubs and also had brief spell in charge of the Spain national team as well. So he’s a top manager has had success at Sevilla and I think he’s somebody that Ruben Neves will be looking forward to working under.”

TIF’s view O’Rourke’s comments

We believe that O’Rourke is on the money here. Lopetegui has an impressive list of clubs on his track record. There is definitely a reason for the Molineux faithful to be optimistic about this appointment.

Furthermore, Neves is arguably Wolves’ best player. The Portuguese international has a higher Sofascore rating than any other player at the club, standing currently at 7.34.

If Lopetegui can get the best out of the midfielder and the rest of his Wolves side, they could definitely climb up the table and away from the relegation zone.

In addition, there’s still a long way to go as far as this season is concerned. If they can bring in some new recruits in January and or grow and develop the talent they already have, Wolves can steer themselves to safety.

A fresh manager with a new set of ideas could be just what the likes of Neves need to perform at their best for Wolves.
