Tony Adams has stated that Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is ‘no good to anyone’ when he’s not played to his strengths.
The Spurs forward has had a great season at club level, netting goals for fun this season. However, at the World Cup so far with England, he’s yet to find the net ahead of their crunch clash with Wales.
Adams wants to see Kane further up the pitch for his nation and believes that will be the key to him getting more goals for the Three Lions.
Writing in his newspaper column, he said: “Where I want to see Harry is on the edge of the box, holding the ball up, pivoting and laying it off the way Shearer could do and Alan Smith did for us at Arsenal.
“Then he has to get in the penalty area and hope we finally start putting some crosses in. That’s where I want to see him, not 10 yards inside his own half. He’s no good to anyone there. We’re not playing to his strengths. The only time he’ll come to life and be a threat is from a set piece at the moment.”

Kane – hailed ‘world-class‘ by Antonio Conte – could definitely do with being further up the pitch at times for England given his goal record.
He already has 12 goals this season from 15 games for Spurs. Last year, he got 17 and notched 23 the campaign before that. Kane is a deadly goalscorer and is one of the world’s best.
There’s still a way to go as far as the World Cup is concerned, and he’ll look to come back with a bang after a fruitless display against the United States – Sofascore gave the Spurs man a 6.4 rating for his performance.
Kane is arguably England’s best player on his day, but we agree with Adams that he needs better service in the box.
A goal from the Spurs forward at the World Cup could be a big boost for him should England make the round of 16 on Tuesday night.
