Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero was left red-faced after being nutmegged in Argentina’s shocking World Cup defeat on Tuesday.

Romero was named in the starting line-up for his country’s opener in Doha despite having missed Tottenham’s five games prior to the tournament.

After a rapid start that saw the South Americans take the lead, the Argentines were undone by the fearless minnows Saudi Arabia in what was a huge upset.

It is certainly one to forget for one of the nation’s fancied by many to win the showcase outright and there is a moment from the match that Spurs’ no.17 won’t want to see again any time soon.

As seen on Twitter the 24-year-old was left embarrassed by Mohamed Kanno.

Perhaps still struggling with injury the Lilywhites’ enforcer was taken off before the hour mark in Qatar and replaced by Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez.

Writing for 90min Tom Gott gave the ex-Atalanta man a 5/10 match rating claiming he didn’t look ‘fully fit’ and was ‘brutally nutmegged’ in the first half before being beaten for the Saudi equaliser.

Romero was certainly kept busy making two clearances, one block, and winning of his six duels (SofaScore).

But alongside Nicolas Otamendi the pair did tend to struggle and it will be interesting to see how Lionel Scaloni tweaks his side for Saturday’s fixture with Mexico.
