Robbie Earle believes that Arsenal have to try to sign Youri Tielemans in the near future.

It was a transfer saga all the way through the summer involving Tielemans and what the future held for the Belgium international given that he was being linked with moves to the likes of the Gunners as well as other Premier League clubs.

However, nothing ended up happening and Tielemans has stayed at Leicester City. He is now in the final 12 months of his contract, which, along with his current form, should be encouraging Arsenal to sign him, according to Earle.

The NBC Sports pundit has claimed on The 2 Robbies podcast that Tielemans should be a target for the Gunners amid his contractual situation.

He said: “Youri Tielelmans – Arsenal, come and do the signing. I’m telling you now, mate. Put him in that team. He’s a good player, he’s a good age, he’s quality, he’s going to go to the World Cup, his contract’s up at the end of the season.”

TIF Thoughts on Youri Tielemans…

While the Gunners were indeed linked with Tielemans over the summer, no official proposal was seemingly made by Arsenal as they looked to improve other areas by signing big-name players such as Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

However, if it gets to January and he still hasn’t signed a new contract, the Foxes may well look to offload him and at least bring in some sort of transfer fee. Otherwise, he will be leaving for free in the summer and the Gunners could land an international player – labelled a ‘superstar‘ by Brendan Rodgers – for a minimal fee.

Tielemans would certainly be a great addition for Arsenal, especially as they could beef up their midfield department as they look to go deep into the Europa League, while he would also be able to step in domestically if required to keep their title aspirations going.

He’s not in “The final 12 months of his contract”.. he has about 7 months atleast now.
