Journalist Ben Banks has slammed Celtic defender Moritz Jenz after his ‘erratic’ display in the club’s most recent game.

The Bhoys took on Hearts of Midlothian away from home in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday and there was plenty to talk about in an exciting game that ended 4-3 in the travelling side’s favour.

While Lawrence Shankland netted a hat-trick, goals from James Forrest, Giorgos Giakoumakis, Daizen Maeda and Greg Taylor were enough to see Celtic pick up the win.

Despite the three points though, having conceded that many goals, some of the Hoops’ backline came in for criticism after the game. Indeed, in the player ratings for Glasgow Live, Banks singled out Jenz for his poor display, giving the centre-back a lowly score of 5/10.

He added: “Booked and gave away a penalty. Looked less calm than his peers on the ball and it led to some erratic decisions when playing out from the back.”

TIF thoughts on Moritz Jenz and Celtic…

With a 6.4 rating on SofaScore to, only three Celtic players were deemed to have played worse on the day by the website. Seeing as he gave away one penalty, committed two fouls, lost the ball nine times, and failed with both his two attempted long balls, it’s not hard to see why Jenz was rated so averagely.

To be fair to the player – since arriving on a season-long loan (with an option to buy) from Lorient in the summer – he has averaged a rating of 7.14 in the league, so he has proven to be a pretty consistent player for Celtic.

Evidently then, this was just an off day for Jenz. He was certainly punished too, as his side shipped three goals but, fortunately, the attacking exploits of Ange Postecoglou’s team bailed him out

Interesting first question, how many Celtic fans were inside Ibrox?
