Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar is now expected to be fit enough to play in the game on Wednesday against Everton.

This is according to the reliable Toon correspondent for The Chronicle Lee Ryder who has been discussing the defender’s injury latest on his YouTube channel.

The Swiss centre-back limped off on Sunday after a defensive shift against Manchester United which may have put injury doubts into the Toon fans.

Schar has been a key figure in Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side with nine Premier League appearances to his name already despite nursing a long-term foot issue.

However, he should be able to make it appearance number 10 for the 2022/23 campaign on Wednesday night with Ryder claiming Howe was optimistic over the 30-year-old’s status:

(0:30) “Eddie Howe spoke about what a big week this is. The players are getting that drummed into them that it’s three games intensity is there, but ultimately for Newcastle supporters going into this clash against Everton, they’ll want to see the best team on the pitch. The good news is Fabian Schar looks like he’s going to be passed fit.”

TIF Thoughts on Ryder’s comments…

This will be music to the ears of all on Tyneside. Schar has become a real presence in the Newcastle defence and has racked up 32 appearances since Howe’s arrival late last year.

Is Schar NUFC's most important defender?

No

And they have every right to be delighted when Schar has played such a big role in this Newcastle defence which has started off the campaign in sensational fashion.

Howe’s side boast the best defensive record this season with just nine goals conceded so far this season – considering three of those goals came against Manchester City, that is an impressive return.
