Rangers would be reluctant to let midfielder Ryan Jack leave in an upcoming transfer window, or at the expiry of his contract next summer.
That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news from Ibrox.
After a difficult start to the season, Jack put in a particularly impressive performance in Scotland’s 0-0 draw with Ukraine in the Nations League on Tuesday evening, with The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell suggesting he looked “a lot sharper” than he did at the beginning of the campaign.
The 30-year-old, who the same journalist has previously dubbed as “underrated”, has been an exceptional signing for Rangers, since joining the Ibrox club from Aberdeen on a free transfer in the summer of 2017.
However, he only managed a 6.6 rating against Aberdeen, but he did manage to achieve an impressive 85% pass success rate (whoscored).
And O’Rourke believes that the club would be reluctant to lose Jack in the near future, with the midfielder providing an element of consistency for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.
“I’m sure Rangers would be reluctant to lose someone like Ryan Jack.
“He’s been a real stalwart for the club, he’s a proven performer when he is fit, he does a really good job for Rangers.
“So, I’m sure once they get to sit down with them, they’ll see where they want to go with him.”
TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments
We agree with O’Rourke and would suggest that Jack is a critical figure at Ibrox for van Bronckhorst, and his experience would be a huge loss if the Glasgow giants were to let him leave in the near future.
The 13-time Scotland international has made 161 appearances across five years of service for the Premiership side, scoring 12 goals and providing 12 assists from midfield across that time according to Transfermarkt.
With the Aberdeen-born midfielder’s contract due to expire at the end of the season, it is now a matter of urgency for the Rangers hierarchy to get Jack’s immediate future secured, otherwise they will have to draw up plans for an experienced replacement should the midfield stalwart leave the club.
