It’s “absolutely massive” that Rangers and Wales midfielder Tom Lawrence gets back match-fit for the Ibrox side as soon as possible.

That is the view of Rangers Review journalist Jonny McFarlane, who was speaking on the latest morning briefing on the media outlet’s YouTube channel.

Lawrence has struggled for fitness since sustaining a knee injury in Rangers’ 4-0 Premiership victory over Ross County back in August, being unable to feature for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side since.

And the Gers have struggled in the 28-year-old’s absence, with the side losing 4-0 to Ajax and arch-rivals Celtic, as well as suffering a 3-0 Champions League defeat at home to Napoli.

McFarlane believes that getting the former Derby County man back in the side will give Van Bronckhorst’s midfield some dynamism that they perhaps don’t have without him.

He said: “Tom Lawrence has emerged as a big player.

“I’ve seen him twice, he was outstanding both times. And he certainly looks like he’s settled in very, very quickly.

“He gives you that dynamism from an eight position which we just don’t really have otherwise.

“I mean, Scotty Arfield provides it to some extent, but Scotty’s not getting any younger, is he?

“So, absolutely massive that he gets back as soon as possible. Got fingers crossed on that, and hopefully, there’ll be a way that he can get back in for that Hearts game.”

TIF Thoughts on McFarlane’s comments…

We believe that Rangers will be absolutely desperate to get Lawrence back in the side as quickly as possible, though it could potentially be foolish to rush him back and prolong his absence further.

The former Ipswich Town star has already made a positive impression in the early stages of his Gers career, scoring three goals and providing two assists in nine appearances for the Glasgow giants this season according to Transfermarkt.

Therefore, we think that it would provide Rangers with a huge boost if Lawrence was match-fit to play in the side’s Premiership clash with Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday, though his lengthy lay-off perhaps casts some doubts over that.
