Rangers Review’s Derek Clark believes that Scott Wright will be given the nod in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side head to Naples to take on the current Serie A leaders in matchday five of Group A.

Napoli are on a run of 11 straight wins – something they’ve only managed twice in their history since 1929/30 (as per Opta).

The Gers face a daunting task, and considering they’ve conceded the joint-most goals (16) in the tournament this season, it could be a matter of damage limitation for the side.

That is why Clark believes Wright will be in the starting XI.

Speaking on the Rangers Review, he said: “I can see Scott Wright possibly playing on the right, just because I think there’s going to be a lot of defending, and in terms of discipline, you know what you get with him.

“Going forward, we know he’s got limitations, but I can see Scott Wright possibly playing over on that right-hand side.

“Rabbi Matondo, I doubt we’ll see, and ditto Fashion Sakala – although I would like to see him at some point. I felt he was really unfortunate to drop out of the team after coming in and doing pretty well.”

TIF Thoughts on Clark’s comments…

Will Giovanni van Bronckhorst still be at Rangers by Christmas?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Wright hasn’t started in Europe since the Bears’ humbling on the opening night at Ajax and has been an unused substitute in two of the three group games since.

The 25-year-old is still awaiting his first goal this season and has managed just one assist.

However, Rangers writer Graeme Hanna has warned that if Van Bronckhorst sufferers a heavy defeat as they did against Liverpool, he could well face the sack.

Considering Wright averages more interceptions than any other attacker in the team (as per WhoScored), the former Scotland U21 international could well be the man to start on the right for the Light Blues in Naples.
