Rangers writer Graeme Hanna believes that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be sacked if the club receive another thrashing in Europe this week.

The Gers are out of the Champions League having suffered a 7-1 drubbing at home on matchday four to last season’s finalists Liverpool.

It’s a result that means van Bronckhorst’s side have conceded the joint-most goals (16) in the competition with Czech minnows Viktoria Plzen.

An uninspiring 1-1 draw with Livingston on Saturday has left the Light Blues four points off fierce rivals Celtic and with the pressure cranked up, Hanna feels that GVB must avoid another humiliation to save his job.

Speaking on the Rangers Review he said:

(12:33) ”You’re talking there about being off the back of the Liverpool game and that damaging result it’s simple the manager cannot afford another hiding because if we were to be hit for five or six again in the same way that the Liverpool game unfolded you know there’s a very good chance that the manager wouldn’t survive that.”

Will Giovanni van Bronckhorst still be at Rangers by Christmas?

It was just five months ago, the Dutch manager led his side out for a Europa League final but pressure on the coach has begun to mount.

Football Insider reported last month that chiefs at Ibrox were concerned by how far the club were behind their city rivals after a heavy 4-0 defeat in the Glasgow derby.

After being booed off the pitch at the weekend fans are growing frustrated and journalist Josh Bunting believes that the manager has ‘lost the dressing room’ would which may suggest that van Bronckhorst is indeed on borrowed time.
