Barry Ferguson believes Fashion Sakala has given Giovanni van Bronckhorst something to think about at Rangers.

Ferguson was speaking on the Go Radio Football Show on Monday following Sakala’s impressive performance at Ibrox this past weekend.

The 25-year-old was handed his first league start of the campaign on Saturday and grabbed a goal and an assist as the Gers defeated St Mirren 4-0.

He had only seen 135 minutes of action prior to Saturday, but Ferguson believes that the Zambian ace has now put himself forward to be considered for the Bears’ crunch Champions League clash with Liverpool on Wednesday.

When discussing the win over St Mirren, he said: “Fashion Sakala really impressed me, and he’s thrown his hat into the ring to maybe get a start on Wednesday night.

“He’s not had a lot of game time this year. One thing he’s got, he’s got blistering pace.

“He did show a bit when he came on against Liverpool at Anfield, I thought, so did [Rabbi] Matondo – and both of them will be deep in the manager’s thinking to maybe get a starting slot against Liverpool.”

Should Fashion Sakala start for Rangers on the wing?

Yes

No

No

Rangers Review writer Joshua Barrie would certainly seem to agree with Ferguson given that he took to Twitter to praise the ‘unpredictable and effective’ winger after the game on Saturday.

He asked whether Sakala was the option on the right going forward, and given that Malik Tillman ‘never looked comfortable’ on that side (footballscotland) on Merseyside, perhaps there is an opening down that flank.

But whether Van Bronckhorst would be willing to make such a big call ahead of the game remains to be seen, with the Gers’ Champions League hopes on the line tonight.
