Wolverhampton Wanderers cannot waste any more time on searching for their next manager.

That is according to Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news from Molineux.

Wolves have been on the lookout for a new head coach following the sacking of Bruno Lage at the beginning of October.

According to various sources, former manager Nuno Espírito Santo is in talks with the club over a potential return to Molineux and is tempted by a return.

This comes after ex-Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui had looked set to take the job this week, but the Spaniard turned down the opportunity due to personal reasons.

O’Rourke believes that it was a “big blow” for the club to receive a rejection from Lopetegui and believes the club need to move quickly.

He said: “They can’t really afford to waste any more time on this managerial search, they need to get somebody in pretty quickly.

“To have Lopetegui turn it down is a big, big blow because now they have to go through the list of candidates as well and try and find the right man to take over from Bruno Lage.

“Whoever does come in is going to have to hit that ground running to help get Wolves up the table and away from that relegation zone.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

We think that if it is indeed Espirito Santo who is to take the reins at Molineux, he has got a major task ahead of him to steer the club away from relegation danger and scoring goals, with the club having won just one game and scored three goals in nine matches so far this season.

It feels as though the potential appointment of their former manager shows that there may have been a lack of Plan B following the rejection from Lopetegui and that the club didn’t take the time to assess other options.

Therefore, as much as it’s impossible to write the decision off, we feel like this is an appointment that could drastically backfire, with Wolves potentially re-appointing a man they sacked in May 2021.
