Wolverhampton Wanderers full-back Nélson Semedo has been criticised for his second-half showing in the side’s 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

That is by BirminghamLive’s Alex Dicken, who gave the 28-year-old a rating of 4/10 in his player ratings article following the match.

Semedo and Wolves were defensively solid in a first-half showing at Crystal Palace which helped the West Midlands side to a 1-0 lead at half-time.

However, the 24-time Portugal international lost Eberechi Eze for the home side’s equaliser, before being caught too far up the field as Wilfried Zaha tucked home the winner for the south east London side, as Steve Davis’ side fell to a 2-1 defeat.

And Dicken was frustrated by the Wolves man’s performance, and his 4/10 rating suggests he was the lowest performing player on the pitch.

“Semedo was superb in the first half to thwart Zaha and seemed to be frustrating the Palace dangerman,” Dicken said.

“A different player emerged for the second half.

“Semedo was partly to blame for Eze’s equaliser as the Palace man drifted in behind him.

“He then jogged back behind Zaha and watched on as he fired home Palace’s winner.”

TIF Thoughts on Dickens comments…

We have to agree with Dicken and believe that Semedo’s brilliant first-half performance was completely undone by a disastrous second half for the right-back at Selhurst Park.

The former Barcelona man earned a measly SofaScore rating of 6.8 for his performance at Selhurst Park, having been partly responsible for both Palace goals, and having lost possession 11 times in the game.

Therefore, we think that Dicken’s rating is fair, though we would also suggest that Semedo was just one of a number of second-half drop offs which led to a Wolves defeat.
