talkSPORT correspondent Alex Crook has claimed that Wolves may appoint an “up-and-coming” British manager after what he was told.

The club remain without a manager having sacked Bruno Lage at the start of October.

Julen Lopetegui looked to be the man for the job before having to turn down the offer due to his father’s illness.

Ruben Amorim of Sporting Lisbon was also mentioned while more recently links have been made to Peter Bosz.

90min have reported that former coach Nuno Espirto Santo is interested in a return to Molineux but Crook has now revealed that agent Jorge Mendes is the one lobbying for that potential outcome.

The journalist has claimed that he heard over the weekend that the club will bring in a ‘non-Mendes client’ and believes they will now move for someone closer to home.

Speaking on the talkSPORT GameDay podcast he said:

“I think Wolves are labouring over this a little bit. Obviously, there’s big interest for Nuno Espirito Santo that’s being driven by Jorge Mendes to come back to the football club but I was told over the weekend, it’s more likely now that it will be a non-Mendes client who takes the job which obviously would be a change of tact.

“I think they’d like the idea of appointing a young up-and-coming British head coach, which is why they spoke to Rob Edwards and I think he’ll get the job.

“There are a couple of other candidates still on the shortlist. But I think by beating Forrest they’ve they feel that there isn’t such a dramatic rush.”

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

Will Wolves be relegated?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Gabriel Agbonlahor recently told Football Insider that he didn’t feel the Old Gold would bring in Sean Dyche, who was among the favourites, as he felt a Portuguese manager would be given the job.

However, Crook’s update is certainly intriguing.

It has been reported that QPR boss Michael Beale is also in contention for the vacant hotseat having only taken his first head coach job at Loftus Road this summer.

Meanwhile, former player Rob Edwards is also thought to have been approached having been let go by Watford and it will be interesting to see what path the club eventually decide to go down.
