Journalist Darren Lewis has slammed Wolves striker Diego Costa, claiming that he can longer perform in the Premier League.

Wolves are well known for being the league’s lowest scorers, with just five goals to their name in the Premier League this season, which won’t have been helped by the ACL injury sustained by summer signing Sasa Kalajdzic on his debut.

However, it’s not as if they are without options in the final third, with the likes of Raul Jimenez, Hwang Hee-chan and Costa able to be called upon, but the latter is now 34 years old and hadn’t played in a top European league since 2020 before recently linking up with Wolves.

This is why Lewis claimed on the TalkSport GameDay podcast that Costa is simply not good enough to cut it in England’s top flight having gone five games without a goal since joining the club.

He said: “I thought they would go out and make one striker, maybe even two, a priority, but they didn’t. They ended up bringing in 78-year-old Diego Costa, and while it might be good for social media memes with chains and lions and all that, he simply cannot do it anymore, which is why he’s not playing in La Liga, which is an easier league to compete in than the Premier League.

Was Costa a pointless signing for Wolves?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“It might have a lot of quality, but in terms of competitiveness, it’s an easier league to compete in. He simply can’t do it anymore.”

TIF Thoughts on Diego Costa…

While Costa’s signing was treated with a lot of fanfare and people expecting to see the same striker that lit up England while playing for Chelsea, where he netted 59 goals in 120 appearances, he’s a lot older now and simply doesn’t have the legs to be able to do that.

Which former Man United man almost joined Wolves?

Despite being 34 years old, Costa has been thrust into the Wolves side and started four times. However, he is yet to get off the mark, so it is no wonder they continue to struggle in front of goal if they are relying on the ageing Spaniard.

No matter who Wolves’ manager is in January, something they need to demand from the owners is a new striker. Otherwise, it’s difficult to see them avoiding relegation into the Championship.
