ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United are not close to adding Mick Doherty to their scouting team despite recent reports.

According to journalist Alan Nixon (via Hammers.News), David Moyes is keen on a reunion with the man who he worked with at some of his former clubs.

Indeed, Doherty has recently left Scottish outfit Celtic and is said to potentially be heading to West Ham next to link up with the Premier League club’s manager once more in his career, having previously linked up at Everton and Sunderland.

However, when talking on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex said he spoke to one of his sources about the matter, and while he wouldn’t entirely rule it out as a possibility, it is not something that appears close at this stage.

In full, he explained: “It’s been reported by Alan Nixon – I think he’s an independent journalist, but he seems to get most of the stories published in The Sun – that a guy called Mick Doherty, who was chief scout for David Moyes at Everton and at Sunderland and is currently at Celtic, was going to be moving to the club to get a move here to work with Moyes again.

“I put this to someone in the club who would know whether that was on the cards, and he said he’s not heard anything yet. He said you’d never rule these things out because if Moyes has worked with him in the past, there’s a chance that he’d like to work them again.

“Obviously, the key person in this is Rob Newman, because this comes under scouting. But at the moment, there is no move for Mick Doherty and it’s not close at this point.”
