David Moyes has admitted live on air that West Ham are currently missing Stuart Pearce who left the club earlier in 2022.

The Hammers have started to find some kind of form under Moyes this season winning three games in a row across all competitions and it appears to have coincided with the fact Gianluca Scamacca is now starting more matches.

However, West Ham are still a long way off the standards they’ve set themselves over the last two seasons which saw them qualify for Europe as they are still just outside of the top 10 on goal difference, and one of the reasons behind their surprising form could be down to the void left by Pearce.

Moyes, who was asked live on talkSPORT if he was missing Pearce at West Ham having been part of the backroom staff for several years at the London Stadium, had this to say:

“We certainly are, I’ve got to say Pearcey was a massive part of what we’ve done over the last couple of years and we miss him them because not only was he great around, he was a great character and a really good guy.”

TIF Thoughts on Pearce’s void at West Ham…

It was at the end of last season that Pearce decide to call it time on his career as First Team coach at West Ham under Moyes having helped guide the Hammers away from relegation battles and into European contention.

However, it appears that both Moyes and the players have struggled to cope with his absence this season with poor results too frequent and now the manager admitting that he was ‘massive’ for them over the last few seasons.

While it can’t be confirmed that Pearce’s departure is the reason why West Ham have largely struggled this season, if Moyes is willing to go on national radio and talk about how big of a miss he is, then it certainly has to be taken into account the role and impact he had with the Hammers.
