Tottenham Hotspur’s potential target Davide Frattesi has got a “good pedigree” as the club look towards signing players from the Italian market.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

According to CalcioMercato, the form of Sassuolo and Italy midfielder Frattesi has brought him to the attention of many suitors ahead of the January transfer window, with Spurs being one of those clubs mentioned.

The same report suggests that manager Antonio Conte is a big fan of the 23-year-old, with journalist Gianluca Di Marzio saying that the Serie A club could let the Italian leave for £26m.

O’Rourke says that Frattesi is currently making a name for himself in his homeland and has hinted that Spurs’ research of Italian players could lead to the club making a move for the Sassuolo star.

He said: “He’s got a good pedigree. “I think he’s around the national team as well now, so he’s definitely making a name for himself.

“Obviously, we know how well Tottenham are researching Italian players with the background they’ve got with Antonio Conte and also Fabio Paratici.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

We would suggest that O’Rourke’s comments would imply that Spurs could be looking to make a move for Frattesi in the January transfer window to bolster Conte’s midfield options.

The four-cap Italy midfielder is capable of notching a goal from the middle of the park, having already bagged three times in 10 Serie A appearances for Sassuolo this season.

The Rome-born talent is also confident moving forward with the ball at his feet, as shown by the fact he ranks in the top 11% of midfielders across Europe’s top five leagues and European competition for dribbles completed per 90 minutes (1.33) and the top 20% for progressive carries per 90 (5.24) over the last 365 days, according to FBref.

Therefore, we think that Frattesi would add a different dynamic to Conte’s regimented and rigid midfield, and might provide the side with a bit more creativity behind a very talented forward line.
