Jack Harrison’s performance was recently slammed after his disappointing display in Leeds United’s Premier League match this weekend.
There was certainly plenty of drama in the Whites’ latest clash. Indeed, the game at Elland Road was delayed significantly due to an electrical issue in the stadium.
When play resumed, however, there was plenty left to unfold. Bukayo Saka gave visitors Arsenal the lead when he was inadvertently assisted by Leeds United attacker Rodrigo.
This proved to be the only goal of the game that ended 1-0 to the Gunners but Patrick Bamford missed a spot kick in the second half and then had another penalty – plus a red card to Gabriel – overturned by VAR at the death.
Amid all the chaos, Harrison sadly failed to make a huge impact on the game and this didn’t go unnoticed by a few journalists.
Indeed, Beren Cross of LeedsLive wrote: “Couldn’t find the same threat as his attacking colleagues. Again guilty of overthinking and delaying when instinct was needed around the Arsenal box.”
Adding to Cross’ sentiment, Graeme Bailey offered an even more damning verdict in his player ratings for 90min. Indeed, the journalist handed Harrison a 4/10 for his efforts.
He said: “Strange to Harrison playing centrally… he struggled from the off in a position that looked foreign to him.”
TIF Thoughts on Jack Harrison and Leeds…
In this game, despite having played on the wing all season, the forward was moved into an attacking-midfield role, and it’s probably fair to say it really backfired for Jesse Marsch on the day.
To be fair to both journalists, it’s not as if the stats do much to defend the winger’s display. On SofaScore, it is recorded that he completed just 78% of his passes, gave away one foul, was dribbled past once, failed with his only attempted cross and had even fewer touches (30) than goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
Therefore, we don’t find this criticism particularly surprising, and it will be interesting to see if Harrison is fielded in this manner again any time soon.
