Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte will want the club’s board to back him in the transfer market in January.
That is according to journalist Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest transfer news on Hotspur Way.
Despite spending over a reported £150m in the summer transfer window, it looks as though Tottenham will be looking to do more business in the January window, with AS Roma and England striker Tammy Abraham just one of the names being touted with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Juventus and United States midfielder Weston McKennie has also been linked with a move to north London in January, suggesting that despite a heavy spending spree in the summer, Spurs’ transfer ambitions won’t just stop at the last summer window.
And Jones believes that Conte will feel as if the squad needs strengthening in every area of the pitch by the time the new year comes around.
“I think Conte generally will always feel that every area of the pitch could do with updating and strengthening.
“This is a man that is never happy.
“At the start of the season, it seemed like he was happy with their transfer business, but I can guarantee by the time we get to January he will not be happy again and he’ll want the board to back him.”
TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…
We think that Spurs should be looking to add a number ten to their squad this winter, with the side being accused of lacking a creative spark so far this season.
The club possesses an array of impressive midfield options, but none of these are likely to unlock the key of many Premier League defences as somebody like former Lilywhites man Christian Eriksen can, who signed for Manchester United as a free agent this summer.
Therefore, we agree with Jones and could see Tottenham dipping back into the transfer market to make further additions to their squad in January.
