Craig Hope has insisted on his Instagram that Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes can now be viewed as a bargain signing, despite costing almost £40 million.

Newcastle fans were treated to yet another scintillating attacking performance on the weekend by their team who have now scored nine goals in just two league games, with star midfielder Guimaraes getting in on the act with an impressive double.

It was seen as a major coup for Newcastle when they landed Guimares in January amidst interest from Arsenal and that has certainly turned out to be the case as he’s a star in Eddie Howe’s midfield and he showed why vs Brentford with two very good goals as well as making five progressive passes and winning four tackles (FBRef).

That sort of display has led to Hope being very impressed by Guimaraes, even labelling his signing as ‘ludicrous’.

(0:40) “There’s only one person to talk about and that’s Bruno Guimaraes, two goals for Bruno Guimaraes, my match report for The Mail on Sunday tomorrow I’ve led off on you know, for all of the money [spent by] Newcastle United’s Saudi owners it was a player that they picked up for an absolute bargain who put the cherry on the cake in this game.

“I say that he’s a bargain at £36 million rising to £42 million it seems ludicrous to even claim that but wow, how Newcastle have managed to unearth him for that fee and Eddie Howe agreed with me afterwards when I put that to him.

Is Guimaraes the best ever NUFC midfielder?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“He said it seems obscene to suggest as much but in today’s market, he really could be one of the best players we’ve ever seen at St James’ Park, or go on to become one of the best players we’ve ever seen here, and that’s a big statement to make.”

TIF Thoughts on Guimaraes…

It’s no secret anymore that Guimaraes is a very talented player and could be playing at a much higher level than the Magpies given their lack of European football and that was highlighted near the end of the summer transfer window when Real Madrid were said to be interested in him.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

While it will be very enjoyable for Newcastle fans to be watching Guimaraes perform at such a high level in front of their eyes, but what will be even more pleasing is the fact the midfielder has claimed he now feels at home.

Guimaraes, who had only scored three goals during his time at Lyon prior to joining Newcastle, now has seven to his name in the black and white shirt something that will likely be a welcomed addition to his already impressive skillset.
