Lilywhite Rose contributor John Wenham has credited Tottenham for managing to loan out Harry Winks despite him being injured.

Winks was a number of fringe players that Antonio Conte wanted to offload in the summer and they managed to find a suitor in Sampdoria who took the midfielder on a season-long loan.

However, the 26-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the Serie A outfit who are currently winless and bottom of the league after ten matches.

It comes after the boyhood Spurs fan made just 17 starts at Tottenham last season and Wenham has no sympathy for the Italian club.

He told Football Insider:

“Winks is still yet to feature for Sampdoria at all.

“He seems to have constant injuries. If Tottenham knew about this injury then it was a masterstroke to get someone else to pay his wages while he is not playing.

“He has only had one or two training sessions before breaking down again. I have no sympathy for them either because they have their own medical team and Wink would have passed a medical.

“So they chose to take him on, we didn’t force that. It is just working out better for us rather than them at this point.”

TIF Thoughts on Winks and Tottenham…

Did Winks deserve more of a chance under Conte?

Of course, it’s never nice to see a player out injured, but the fact that Spurs have got him off their wage bill for now and he’s not playing is somewhat of a positive, if you can call it that.

Winks has only ever represented the Lilywhites making 203 senior appearances for the club.

The Hemel Hempstead-born maestro came through the underage system at N17 but it is unlikely that he will ever feature again.

In the final 13 Premier League games of last season, he played just 65 minutes under Conte despite being labelled a ‘reliable’ performer by the manager.

Yves Bissouma’s summer arrival has only seemingly knocked the ten-cap England international further down the pecking order but Spurs may face an issue finding a permanent transfer for the £13.5m-rated dynamo with Sampdoria unlikely, at this point, to want to do further business.
