Journalist John Townley has admitted that Steven Gerrard reacted strongly to his question in Aston Villa’s pre-match press conference on Thursday.

Gerrard’s side don’t return to action until Monday when they welcome Nottingham Forest to Villa Park in what will be a great opportunity for the club to pick up their third league win of the season.

The Villans sit 14th in the standings following a 0-0 draw with Leeds at Elland Road last Sunday, two points ahead of the relegation zone.

But perhaps they should have risen higher given the Villans played the majority of the second half against ten men.

Nevertheless, with a draw on either side of their most recent win at home to Southampton, Gerrard is keen to turn one point into three next time out.

Speaking on the Claret and Blue YouTube channel Townley said:

“I did ask him (Gerrard) you could go four matches unbeaten which would be a record run for you during your tenure and he kind of hit back straight away saying but that doesn’t matter it’s about the three points so they’re under no allusion about what they have got to do to climb the table.”

TIF Thoughts on Gerrard’s comments…

Is Forest a must win for Gerrard?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Considering Forest are at the foot of the Premier League table off the back of a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Leicester, this is a game Villa would be expected to win.

The Garibaldi Reds have lost six of their first eight fixtures including each of their last five and have conceded 21 goals already.

With just six goals scored at this juncture, Gerrard will be keen to see his side improve going forward and at home is where they have been at their best at least.

Seven of their eight league points have come at Villa Park while they have failed to score in just one of their four games as hosts.

Forest meanwhile, have netted just once and shipped 13 goals on their travels so far which would further reinforce that three points is indeed a must for the club on Monday or else the manager could be under increasing pressure.
