Andrew Musgrove believes that Eddie Howe could start Chris Wood instead of Callum Wilson for Newcastle United this weekend.

Newcastle are currently enjoying a superb run of form with three wins out of their last four games and have lost just once in the Premier League all season which sees them sitting in sixth and just two points off the top four.

However, someone who hasn’t been enjoying the same level of personal success is their number nine Callum Wilson who’s scored just one goal since he returned from injury and with three games in a week, he could be rested this weekend against Tottenham Hotspur.

Musgrove has claimed on the Everything is Black and White podcast that Eddie Howe may swap Wilson for Wood against Spurs.

Who should start vs Spurs?

Wood!

Wood!

Wilson!

Wilson!

(54:30) “Onto upfront, I do think he will start with Chris Wood.”

TIF Thoughts on this potential change…

If Howe was to drop Wilson for Wood, then it would likely see a lot of fans disappointed and think their chances of beating Spurs decrease dramatically because the New Zealand international is nowhere near the level of Wilson.

It’s shown this season as well because Wood has been handed just one start all season and wasn’t even preferred all the time when Wilson was out injured earlier in the campaign and since his return has been afforded just 21 minutes.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

However, Eddie Howe will recognise Wilson’s atrocious injury record and know that starting three games in a week could be too much of a risk, but that would see the Magpies likely have to alter their style of play to suit Wood as well and that could upset the entire balance of the team.
