Ben Jacobs has revealed that former Premier League boss Andre Villa-Boas is interested in becoming the new Aston Villa manager.

The Villa hierarchy are now on the hunt for their third manager in less than 12 months with Gerrard suffering the same after as Dean Smith did by being given the boot for poor results and performances.

Certain parts of the media have liked high-profile managers with the job such as Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel, but a more rogue name is former Tottenham Hotspur manager Villas-Boas, who has confirmed his interest to the club, according to Jacobs.

While speaking on the Off The Ball podcast, Jacobs confirmed Villa-Boas was indeed a name to keep an eye on over the coming days.

(12:55) “Two outsiders just to keep an eye on, Marcelo Bielsa, former Leeds manager and AVB [Villas-Boas] too, AVB is a very distant candidate, I don’t think Villa are looking at him, but he’s very interested in Villa because I understand he thinks he’s still got something to prove in the Premier League.”

TIF Thoughts on Villa’s managerial search…

Appointing Villas-Boas would certainly be a very risky and rogue choice by the Villa hierarchy given he was pretty poor at both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, lasting less than 12 months with the Blues and just over a year with Spurs.

However, if they fail to land bigger name targets such as Pochettino and Tuchel, then they may well look to some more attainable like Villas-Boas, especially if he is keen to take the job, as Jacobs has claimed.
